Ideato da Il Melograno e sperimentato a lungo da un farmacista veronese, il progetto Farmacia Amica dell’Allattamento materno si avvale di un protocollo costituito da indicazioni che affidano ai farmacisti un ruolo importante nella tutela e nel sostegno dell’allattamento materno.
La Farmacia che aderisce Protocol
aligns with what the WHO reaffirms: breast milk is species-specific food to feed the children and mothers should be supported to breastfeed exclusively up to six months of a child's life continues even after the introduction of complementary foods.
Mother, new parents, for which the pharmacy is a point of reference for advice on child health, are also supported here in this health practice.
The initiative is as follows:
- Training of pharmacists under the standard proposed for health workers by WHO / UNICEF.

- Adaptation of the exhibition space to the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes, drafted by WHO and UNICEF in 1981 and approved by the World Health Organization and the main companies that produce food for the ' childhood. The Code is designed to protect breastfeeding mothers from aggressive marketing of junk food to children.
- Promotion breastfeeding culture, conveyed through images that cover the pharmacy environment.
- Activation of the territory and community initiatives and projects to network with other social actors that protect breastfeeding.
